IPeel is a partial prosthetic built for a future where humanity discovers new planets and utilizes their natural resources.
The tactile surfaces of IPeel are made from potato bioplastic- a mixture of potato starch, water, Sodium Alginate and Matcha Powder (for smell).
Below is the prototype and concept stage of development.
Prototypes showed that the bioplastic was too gelatinous so I changed the recipe. I also decided that the rigid “palm” should be Thermoplastic Elastomer, not bioplastic. On the 20th recipe I found a result that was skin-like. The “stainless steel” fingers are a mockup of stainless steel using PLA and paint.
Below is the final product and process.
